Heidi Klum was conceived in the German city of Bergisch Gladbach on June 1, 1973. Erna Klum was her hairdresser's mother. Gunther Klim his father was head of the cosmetics business. Heidi's father had earlier been a production manager for the perfume firm 4711. Heidi was born in Bergisch Gladbach which is a town of 100,000 only 6 miles to the east of Cologne. Heidi Klum is a former German-American fashion model who now works as a TV host, producer and fashion designer. Klum's career as a model began in the year 1992, when Klum was working in the Dusseldorf Discotheque. This German magazine Petra produced show for talent was part of Thomas Gottschalk's late-night talk show. Klum took on thousands of contestants from across Germany as well as Europe up to the point of being one of the three semi-finalists. Then, in April 1992, Klum was awarded a top prize of $300,000.
